Ancient Irish Crafts
These days, I spend quite a lot of time turning two-dimensional string into three dimensional hats, like these.
Artemis thought I might enjoy something similar and she suggested I take a basket weaving course. I loved it.
These are willow "rods" as Orly, our tutor called them. Although willows grow in Ireland, they need to be cultivated like any crop, and like much of agriculture, to get enough for these classes, the willows are imported from Sussex, UK.
I took photos of the progress with the hope that I would be able to remember how to do it. Everything was taught by example, "gather round," Orly said, and patiently showed us over and over what we were doing wrong.
Orly called that tool a "bodkin." Lovely word.
The willow still has a pleasant peppery smell.

Out for Lunch
A few days ago, Artemis sent me a list of "best places to have lunch in Donegal" and we went over to The Narrow Quarter in the village of Kerrykeel not too far from us.
We met a horse and a donkey.
